I hear Woodford county is going to announce that they will no longer prosecute for concealed carry. Official announcement is to come soon.

My concern is that until the state passes this, that something could go wrong in these counties.

e.g., Even though the States Atty. won't prosecute, police can still arrest. Can Lisa Madigan still prosecute to make an example? Get a felony charge, lose your FOID and NEVER have a firearm again?

IDK but this was a conversation I had with an individual who works for Sangamon County Sheriff's Dept.

Let's keep them for our kids.

if a lot more counties went with this I think it would get the state police to show a need for an arrest.  we need to remember that the officers on the street are law abiding gun owners just like us.  part of their job is to do what is needed and make the correct decision for the situation at hand.  the people who are doing nothing wrong more than likely wont have a problem.   hopefully we all understand that if the decision to use our firearm is made that's the start to the fight,  you will then have to defend your decision.

Stu Umholtz may not prosecute in Tazewell County, however the City of Pekin, (the County seat) has its own ordinance (6-2-4-1(a)(4) making it an ordinance violation "to carry concealed in any vehicle or on or about his person" a revolver or other firearm.  The City of Pekin has its own prosecutor, so regardless of what the State's Attorney will do, I need to hear from all the other jurisdictions to protect my foid....or wait until we know what the state law is!

FWIW, I believe the city of Peoria also has its own ordinance against concealed carry:

I agree with you that the local jurisdictions probably will not prosecute, but as they are both home rule, they do not have to follow the guidance of the county top prosecutor.  I used to prosecute ordinance violations for the City of Pekin in my early days, so am pretty familiar with the process, and we took orders from the city council/ mayor at that time, now it would be the City Manager.  In short I agree, but am not ready to take the risk yet.

Just because you might not get prosecuted doesn't mean that you will not get detained and take a ride to the station in the back of a police car.
